I have been meaning to start writing for some time because occasionally I have something to say and when I do people seem to appreciate it. I haven’t started out of fear and the perception that my first post should be mind blowing and mistake free. Like so many of the people I have coached sometimes you just need to start. Regardless of how you start, just start.
There are an infinite amount of excuses that stop us from starting but the root of all of them is fear. We are scared that we may fail and some say we are scared that we may succeed. We finally make a move when the fear of staying the same is greater then the fear of changing. Change is scary, no doubt about it and denying the fear doesn’t make it any better or make it go away.
Some people may read this and related it to getting healthy, some people may relate this to their careers or even their relationships. It’s all the same, fear holds us back. You can’t be certain of what lies in your future and all your decisions may not turn out the way you hoped but we can’t let that paralyze us from changing at all. In hindsight, the biggest changes I have made have lead to my biggest breakthroughs. My Dad always says “the most stressful time, is the time of indecision” and he is right. On the other side of that traffic jam of fear is a wide open freeway where you can take off and start enjoying the ride.
As we wind down another year ( I cant even believe its 2014! I feel like 2000 was yesterday) I’ll leave you with a great quote;
“Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain
