We have worked with thousands and thousands of people and through trial and error we have come to some universal lessons.
1- Everyone has issues, sometimes even more for the famous and the successful.
2- Everyone knows what they should be doing and can easily identify where they are making their biggest mistakes.
3- No one wants it to be their own fault.
So, if people know what they should be doing (eat better, exercise more often and live a healthy lifestyle) why don’t they do it? It’s just not “logical”, that’s entirely the lesson. People don’t get out of shape logically, they get out of shape emotionally. Life beats them up, leaves them emotionally unable to make the sacrifice and go through the discomfort of change. So, they flip from logical plan to logical plan, failing time and time again and blaming the process with common statements like;”paleo, zone, vegan.. just didn’t work for me”, “I’m going to try a cleanse”, “I’m just not a runner”, “I tried going to the gym and I didn’t get any results”, “I just can’t find a good trainer”, “the class times don’t work for my schedule”, “it’s too far”, “too expensive”, “weights make me bulky”. Or they don’t ever start at all, waiting for the time to be just right.
People say all these things while sabotaging their efforts and not even eliminating the catastrophic mistakes that make a huge difference all on their own. Typically, eating horribly with rare moments of brilliance (organic, portioned controlled etc.) and exercising half heartedly and inconsistently all the time blaming the program, the diet, their genetics, their injuries….. Sound familiar?
People can get results from almost every exercise program and almost every diet. (That’s not to say some aren’t better then others.) There is no magic bullet but there is one common denominator between every single successful person, its commitment. Chances are if they got better results then you it’s because they worked harder then you, more often then you and made way less mistakes then you. Chances are, it’s not a trainers fault, a gym’s fault or a diets fault… it’s probably your fault.
Hang in there, there is good news on the horizon and a blue print out of your history of false starts in fitness! Stay tuned!
